The incredible passenger growth at Windsor International Airport—YQG continues. This winter, Air Transat launches service at the airport for the first time, with weekly non-stops to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This marks the seventh new route for Windsor since it started working with Sixel in 2009. In that time, passengers have tripled.
While Windsor had excellent service to Cuba, with Sunwing flying to two destinations non-stop, one of the most requested markets for wintertime service continued to be the Dominican Republic. Windsor worked to convince Air Transat of the demand for service for more than three years until it was finally announced in the summer of 2015. The service is booking well—evidence that the underlying data in the case study was accurate.
Air service development doesn’t often happen overnight. Even in markets that have seen significant recent success, like Windsor, it can take years of relationship building to earn an airline’s trust. When you keep at it, as Windsor shows, it leads to new service.
