Windsor Grows Cuba and Lands First Service to Jamaica

Project Description

Windsor Ontario’s strong passenger growth is set to continue into 2017 with the addition of two new Sun destination cities this winter. This December, Sunwing is adding new service to both Cayo Coco, in Cuba, and Montego Bay, in Jamaica.

Windsor International Airport might be Sixel’s best success story. Since our consultants started working with the Airport, passengers have more than tripled. The Airport has been able to land nine new routes in the last seven years.

Each year Windsor commissions a new True Market Study, to better understand how its passengers use air service in the region. The Airport has increased its local share of   passengers from just 7% to near 20% since 2009. It’s also doing a much better job drawing US travelers from Detroit, across the Canadian border, on its unduplicated non-stops.

With a strong US Dollar, airports in Canada have a unique opportunity for growth. Sixel’s experience in Windsor illustrates how an airport can capitalize on economic trends.
