Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport had service to 14 destinations on four airlines with record enplanements in the most recent year. The biggest gap in service at Northwest Arkansas was nonstop service to San Francisco. The world’s largest retailer is based in Northwest Arkansas, but much of its technology workforce, and many of its technology consultants are based in and around San Francisco. Travel between Northwest Arkansas has never required more than one connection, but connections added time to the journey making it a seven hour trip in some cases.
Not only will nonstop San Francisco service make travel in the local market easier, but it will also facilitate connections to and from the destinations United and its alliance partners serve in Asia. Northwest Arkansas’ Asia traffic has increased more than 25% since 2009; United will now be able to capture a larger share of this valuable traffic and grow Northwest Arkansas-Asia traffic.
