While Albany International Airport has always had relatively good air service with service to 16 destinations on all three legacy airlines and Southwest, our analysis of the Albany market and community feedback indicated there was demand for additional airline capacity.
A leakage study revealed Albany retained just 60% of the traffic in its immediate catchment area, and even the most popular destinations in Florida with existing service leaked significant traffic to airports in the metropolitan New York area. With this information in hand, we built a business case for JetBlue service to Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, and presented the case to JetBlue. Using our data and its own analysis of the Albany market, JetBlue determined service from Albany to both destinations would be good opportunities. JetBlue will begin the service on December 10, 2015 for the winter/spring peak season. Both routes will operate with 150-seat Airbus A320s and add 300 more seats per day each way in Albany.
If we can help your community enhance its air service, give us a call, and we will assess your opportunities.
