Windsor International Airport – YQG is celebrating yet another Sixel success. On December 18, National Airlines started its twice-weekly non-stop service to Orlando-Sanford. The service is operated by Boeing 757 aircraft with 182 seats—the largest aircraft serving Windsor and the only non-stop to the United States.
Windsor has been a Sixel client since 2009. In the years preceding, many consultants told city and airport leadership that they should be happy with their Air Canada service—Sixel saw opportunity. In the last six years, Sixel has helped the airport to recruit WestJet, Sunwing, Porter, Air Transat, and now National to the market. Passengers have tripled in that time, along with airport revenue.
Windsor proves that strong analytics, good relationships, and strong underlying market demand can be leveraged for new service. Even when other airports are nearby (Detroit, in this case) and when others say it’s impossible.
